The Slavonian Dialect Day in the City Library
The Slavonian Dialect Day in the City Library On Wednesday, April 21st 2010, at the Slavonian Dialect day in the City library, which was organised by City library Slavonski Brod and primary school Stjepan Radic from Oprisavci, theatre plays "Fisherman Palunko" and "Gingerbread heart" were held. The show was prepared and preformed by students of primary school from Oprisavci with the help of their teachers. Student Valentina Vidakovic from Oprisavci says that the Slavonian dialect is old speech in her village and has a little bit different accents then the standard Croatian language. She added that even some older people in her house spoke like that, and when we asked her if she speaks it also, she answered smiling: "Sometimes I do. I think that it is simply in the blood to us in Slavonia. Even though, some kids in school use the dialect and some don´t." Matej Doric from Svilaj didn´t know how to explain what this dialect was but he said that his grandmother, grandfather and great-grandmother used it. Sometimes he also uses dialect which he learned by listening to it in his family. The question was how they treated the Slavonian dialect at school, and he said: "At school we often use the dialect, when we have oral exams." All the viewers of the show came out of the hall with smile on their faces and they discussed everything they had heard few minutes before so we could conclude that they liked the dialect show very much.
